How to Get Your T-Mobile Number Transfer PIN
T-Mobile makes it easy to get a transfer PIN through the app or by calling. Here's the full process.
What you need
Your new carrier needs your T-Mobile account number and a transfer PIN (port-out PIN). T-Mobile generates these through the app or customer service.
Method 1: T-Mobile app (fastest)
Open the T-Mobile app.
Go to Account → Profile settings.
Tap Line settings → select the line you're porting.
Tap Request a Transfer PIN.
The PIN is sent to your T-Mobile phone via text. It's valid for 7 days.
Method 2: Call T-Mobile
Call 1 (800) 937-8997 or dial 611 from your T-Mobile phone.
Ask for a number transfer PIN.
The representative will text the PIN to your number.
Common pitfalls
- Do NOT cancel T-Mobile before porting. The port auto-cancels your line once complete.
- T-Mobile device unlock can take up to 2 business days. Request it before starting the port.
- "Free phone" promotions via bill credits stop when you leave. Remaining device balance is due on your final bill.
- If you're on a family plan, porting one line doesn't affect the others — but it may change per-line pricing.
T-Mobile Keep & Switch
Before you leave T-Mobile, check if the carrier you're switching to offers a Keep & Switch rebate. T-Mobile themselves offer up to $800 via prepaid card for people switching to T-Mobile — and other carriers have similar programs. This can offset any remaining device balance you owe.
